Why It Matters Now

Though John was killed in action in 1989, the sacrifice he represents is timeless. In an era where fewer Americans serve, it is more important than ever to remind future generations of the real people behind our freedoms.

A Civic Landmark for Scituate

The memorial will become a destination, a source of public pride, and a backdrop for Memorial Day, Veterans Day, and reflection on any day. It will be woven into the fabric of the town’s identity.

“John had off the charts mental toughness but he was a huge softy for the underdog. He tutored kids in the Columbia Point housing project and I think one of the things that attracted him to the military was the ability to right wrongs.”
